Doka Estate Coffee Tour

The cultivation and export of coffee have shaped Costa Rica’s economy since the 19th century, when the world began to crave the country’s coffee varieties&nbspand their unique aromas, textures, and tastes. At the Vargas family’s Doka Estate, a sunny plantation, visitors learn more about their favorite vice: from crop varieties and seed germination to first harvests, ripe-bean collection, and eco-friendly cultivation techniques. Naturally the tour saves the best for last: Sample their famous Tres Generaciones brew, recognized in 2000 and 2001 as Costa Rica’s top cup of joe.

La Luna Means Sunset at Playa Nosara

Despite the restaurant’s name, you don’t come here for the moon, you come here for the sun(set). After my first visit to Costa Rica in May 2003 my efforts to view the sunset were thwarted by the torrential downpours that define rainy season in Costa Rica. So when I returned this December I was determined to experience the magic of the Costa Rican sunset. Every inquiry I made pointed me to La Luna, and now I know why. Playa Nosara is in the Guancaste region and defines the Pacific Coast in the northern region of the country. You’ll need to take a cab to La Luna (ours cost $30 from Blue Spirit). I recommend making a reservation and BRING CASH! It is a cash only establishment, which we did not know. Sitting there penniless, the staff took the initiative to call our hotel to request our driver return to take us to the nearest ATM (which is not nearby, btw). Mauricio arrived within ten minutes and a hundred dollar bill!! He offered us the cash to pay for our dinner and drop us at the ATM on the way home, what an angel! Now that we didn’t have to wash dishes, we were ready to enjoy our front row view for the sunset and a menu with enough variety to satisfy any craving (a lot is written about their pizza) but we stuck with the fish and had the freshest ceviche, fish tacos and a snapper that had to have been caught that day. Don’t miss one of the few opportunities to sit on the beach in Costa Rica and enjoy fun signature cocktails and the most amazing sunsets anywhere!

Sunset Dinners on Costa Rica's Shoreline

La Luna is an outdoor restaurant situated on Nosara’s dream-like coast. Tables align the sandy shore as expats fill up on the freshest local cuisine. Arrive before sunset to witness this spectacular view.
