Dive Into the Cousteau Reserve
Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau—20th-century explorer, conservationist, documentarian, and dive pioneer—was such an early champion of the protection and preservation of Guadeloupe’s rich marine biodiversity and underwater seascapes that its most revered dive and snorkel site, a protected underwater reserve, is named in his honor. The Cousteau Reserve, located just off the coast of Basse Terre near Bouillante, is a largely sheltered bay anchored by two small, uninhabited islands. Options for exploring the Cousteau Reserve include booking a glass-bottom boat tour; renting snorkel gear and a sea kayak on Malendure Beach and paddling out; or booking a dive excursion through a licensed SCUBA tour organizer, such as Caradonna Adventures.
