During a recent visit to Rio de Janeiro, I had the pleasure of staying at Discovery Hostel, a cozy retreat for travelers located at the base of the Santa Teresa neighborhood.
Less like a hostel and more like a home, Discovery staff are warm and friendly and many of them became friends by the time I was set for departure. Discovery attracts likeminded travelers, creating a family atmosphere that encourages camaraderie amongst guests. Finding travel companions to tour the city with is effortless, and staff recommendations are plentiful. The hostel is a quiet place to relax throughout the day, and from 8pm to 11pm, a New Zealand native named Rob mixes some of the best caipirinhas I had in all of Rio.
The hostel is great for stays throughout the year, and perfect for occasions like Rio's New Year's Eve Réveillon celebration in December and January and Carnaval festivities in February.
