In the northern part of the state, the Lakes Trail takes its name from the abundance of, well, lakes found in this part of the state. Stretching from Paris (Texas) and Athens (Texas) in the east up to Wichita Falls and south to Hillsboro, the Lakes Region is “where the old south meets the wild west.” It is a meeting place, both geographically as well as historically. The hub of this region as well as traces of some of the state’s very oldest residents, at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose. Among the other highlights are the State Fair of Texas held every fall and the Fort Worth Cattle Drive and Stockyards. The Lakes Trail also includes the Chisholm Trail.
