During my recent trip to Hong Kong I was on a quest for local culinary adventure, as I always do when traveling. After an exciting morning in the busy area of Mongkok, the smell of greatness took me to a little restaurant called D.i.F. The fact that the menu had multiple pictures of local food and that the tables were packed with locals, was enough to make me embark in this adventure.
After glancing over the pictures, my friend and I settled for a combination of plates that could offer a taste of this city: green beans with a chili-pork seasoning, saute eel with chili spiced vegetables and hot wings HK style were the perfect accompaniment to our sweet and sour and ramen noodle soups. The combination of spices, flavors and textures exploded like fireworks in my mouth.
Such a simple but delicious meal made with skill and knowledge passed on by generations through hundreds of years is a gem of Hong Kong, one of the culinary capitals of the world.
