The experience of standing in front of Dechencholing Royal Palace in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan is hard to explain. It feels so different and foreign, the culture is so connected to it's past. You almost feel like you are back in time. Nepal felt a few hundred years back in time. In Bhutan you can feel connected back a few thousand years in the past. Even something as simple as driving on the roads and getting to see a word for the first time on the stone road signs filled you with wonder. Being at the palace at night I felt deep peace with an other worldly flavor. As if the whole place had been created as a celebration for all who came of all the good things in life. Later the night at the palace turned darker and exciting. I finally talked our guide into letting me hand deliver a letter for the Queen Mother. Talking to her different guards in the light rain at night and answering their questions felt like being in a mystery novel. The fourth guard told us she was out of town touring the country and took the letter.
