When it comes to culinary bragging rights, fried ants and grasshoppers tacos are nothing compared to a cocktail with a dehydrated human toe. To get your official certificate as a member of the Sourtoe Cocktail Club, you’ll have to head to Dawson City in the Yukon. The cocktail’s origins date back to Prohibition when a rumrunner on a cross-border run was caught in a blizzard and had to amputate his big toe after prolonged exposure. He preserved it in alcohol and years later when his cabin was being cleaned out the famous toe was found and the Sourtoe Cocktail Club was born. To become a member, go to the Sourdough Saloon and order a shot of any alcohol. The bartender will drop the toe into your drink and while your lips must touch it (per club rules), you do not, don’t worry, eat the toe.
