Darat Al-FununThis cultural center, whose name means 'House of Arts' holds the pulse of Amman's contemporary art scene, and runs a program of exhibitions taking place throughout the year.
Take a stroll through the manicured garden, speckled with modern art. It's a tranquil spot to unwind and contemplate the cityscape views. The lower half of the grounds is also home to the remains of the Byzantine era Church of St George. Whether you're into modern art or not, the main building, which hosts the center's art exhibitions, is a grand example of Amman's early-20th-century villa architecture and is worth a visit – the garden cafe is the perfect place to sit and recharge. The building was once owned by the British commander of the Arab Legion during the First World War and can count Lawrence of Arabia as one of its former guests.
