Darat Al-FununThis cultural center, whose name translates to “House of Arts,” is the pulse of Amman’s contemporary art scene, with a program of exhibitions taking place throughout the year. The manicured garden, speckled with modern art, is a tranquil spot to unwind and contemplate the cityscape views, while the lower half of the grounds boasts remains of the Byzantine-era Church of Saint George.
A grand example of Amman’s early-20th-century villa architecture, the main building is worth a visit even if you’re not into modern art. It was owned by the British commander of the Arab Legion during the World War I and can count Lawrence of Arabia as one of its former guests. Stroll through the exhibits on view, then head to the charming garden cafe to recharge.
