Danum Valley

Tracking orangutans in Malaysian Borneo
The Danum Valley Conservation area of Malaysian Borneo is one of the last remaining places on earth to see orangutans in the wild. It's a 2-3 hour ATV trip from the small town of Lahad Datu to the all-inclusive Borneo Rainforest Lodge on the banks of the Danum River, where you can take a relaxing float by tube at the end of a steamy day.

For a much less expensive option, hardier folk can look into staying at the Danum Valley Field Center, a research station that provides basic accommodations to paying guests as well as to scientists.
