A few blocks off of Xinghai Square, this museum focuses on the history of Dalian from 1840 to 1949, the year the People’s Republic of China was founded. Signage is in Chinese, but English pamphlets explain the exhibits of war memorabilia, vintage photos and artifacts related to the seven-year period of Russian rule. Dalian today is a leading port and financial center of northeast Asia, and the museum’s displays allow visitors to understand how the city achieved its current economic importance.
