Dajabón Province, Dominican Republic
WisdomThis photograph was taken during my humanitarian travel to the Dominican Republic. This Dominican man stopped me on the way to the Haitian/ Dominican border and gestured to my camera. I smiled and asked in Spanish if he would like me to take his picture. He nodded happily. Once his portrait was done, he looked at me, then at the camera. He once again gestured curiously to the camera. I took the neckstrap off and turned the camera so he could see his portrait on the screen. He stared silently. After a couple of moments he looked to me held my hand and thanked me. This handsome man had never seen himself photographed before.
