The Great Barrier Reef may be the most famous natural wonder in Queensland, but there are other treasures to explore on the mainland including the world’s oldest living rainforest, the Daintree Rainforest which is one that you’ll visit on Betty Jo’s itinerary. Extending over 460 square miles, the Daintree Rainforest is included on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. Here is a setting where you can truly feel like you have entered a land lost in time. Many of earth’s earliest plants are represented here, including ancient ferns and primitive angiosperms and conifers that are closely related to specimens found in Jurassic fossils. Betty Jo isn’t going to throw you into this wilderness unescorted, of course. You’ll have a guide who will explain both the indigenous plant life found here and introduce you to the culture of the Aboriginal locals.
