Cypress Street, Abilene
1499 Cypress Street
Tales of the WestAbilene’s rich history comes alive at Frontier Texas, a visitor center/museum that anchors Cypress Street, which extends from the Civic Center and includes the restored T&P Railroad Depot. In the 1980s, the city recognized the value of historic preservation and adaptive reuse, and worked to make its main street, Cypress, a model for revitalization. Thanks to that foresight, you’ll find here a collection of late-19th and early-20th century buildings—former hotels and offices that today house museums, restaurants, and shops—as well as the handsomely restored, Spanish-Moorish-style Paramount theater, now a performing arts venue.
