C.S. Lewis Square
C.S. Lewis, author of the beloved
Chronicles of Narnia series, was born in Belfast in 1898 and spent the first 10 years of his life there. Explore his haunts in the city, starting with the trail at C.S. Lewis Square in east Belfast, where you can see seven bronze sculptures inspired by
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, including Aslan the lion and Robin and the Stone Table. Stop into Jack Coffee Bar (after the author’s nickname) for locally sourced food and works by local artists. Then visit St. Mark’s Church, where Lewis’s grandfather was the rector, and see the lion doorknob, which may have inspired the character of Aslan.
