On the CS Lewis trail in Northern Ireland
Author Clives Staples Lewis, who was most famous for writing The Chronicles of Narnia, was born in Belfast in 1898 and spent the first ten years of his life there, going on to write more than 40 books.
Explore his haunts in the city, starting the trail at CS Lewis Square in East Belfast, where you can see eight sculptures inspired by The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and also visit Jack’s café (after the author’s nickname) to see his books and learn more about his life and the area.
Follow the trail to see an exhibition of Lewis’s work at Belmont Tower, the street where he was born and the lion-shaped door handle at St Mark’s Church, which may have inspired the character of Aslan the lion.
