We discovered this shrine outside the small moutain-side town of Lakki on a winding drive to Samaria George. There are many of these structures along the road throughout Crete. They are often tributes to loved ones lost to traffic accidents or erected as altars to honor saints.
This is the unique Cretan way of preparing the traditional dish of "lamb" for the feast after the wedding. They light a fire in the land and place the lambs, cut in half, all around. If you ever attend a wedding in Crete, don't hesitate to taste it. So delicious!
