A place in which it’s much easier to find beer and fries than wine and crêpes, Lille is not your typical French city. I’ve eaten my body weight in fries and couldn’t be happier, but sometimes you really just want a crêpe stuffed to the seams with delicious, you know? Imagine my joy, then, when I stumbled upon Crêperie Beaurepaire. This restaurant is almost always full despite being hidden down the tiny rue St. Etienne, and deservedly so. They are outstanding in their craft. Their menu is extensive, and prices are quite reasonable especially considering the high quality of their food. Of course, I recommend everything on the menu, but one of my favorites has been their specialty Ch’ti-flette: potatoes, lardons (sort of like ham, sort of like bacon), onions, and Maroilles (Flemish and strong!) cheese. Of course, you need to finish off with a banana and Nutella crêpe…my favorite. It’s the essentials of the North’s Ch’ti culture all wrapped up into one amazing meal!
