Crater Lake, early morning panorama
We arrived at Crater Lake Lodge in the late afternoon with the sun almost set. At dusk, while the setting is spectacular, the light on the lake itself is most unremarkable. We enjoyed a late dinner at the lodge, a brief walk in the cold moonlit night and went off to bed. Nothing could have prepared me for the scene to come. Sometime around 5 a.m. a streak of daylight creeping through the curtains pulled me out of bed. The sun was rising directly in front of me, over the lake. For 30 minutes or more I sat quietly in awe mesmerized by the beauty of this place, snapping photo after photo, hoping somehow to capture what I was feeling at the moment.
