Coral Tree Nursery, Curaçao
Reef devastation is a sad reality in much of the Caribbean, but this new project is a happy exception. In 2015, the Coral Restoration Foundation Curaçao started a nursery of PVC pipe and floating buoys where staghorn, elkhorn, and other coral species are able to grow and reproduce. In just a year, the 400 fragments multiplied to 1,250, many of which the foundation has since transferred to nearby reefs. Travelers can snorkel or scuba dive to see the impressive results.
