Good restaurants are thin on the ground in the gastronomic desert that surrounds the Duomo, so cosy little wine bar-restaurant Coquinarius is a welcome surprise. Soft jazz and bare brick walls play backdrop to a menu of delicious pastas such as pear and pecorino tortellini, imaginative salads and platters of cheeses and cold cuts. Homemade desserts are divine, or you could pop across the road to fab gelateria Grom for your sugar hit. Or both.

Burrata filled Ravioli with a Pistachio Pesto

A most memorable food and wine pairing meal from one of my tasting tours. This pasta was simply incredible and filled with burrata- a very rich mozzarella that has a solid mozzarella “shell” and a creamy interior. Coquinarius is one of my favorite restaurants and wine bars in Florence that serves gourmet Italian and Tuscan fare in the heart of the center with an exhaustive wine list, not to mention impeccable service. A great way to recover from climbing the Duomo for those visiting Florence.
