Old World Elegance in the Garden District

Walk in off Magazine St. and you’ll feel suddenly becalmed at Coquette, a comfortable neighborhood bistro that's elegant without being fussy. Since opening in 2008, it’s consistently turned out exquisitely prepared modern continental fare. Yet it's constantly evolving and changing — don’t become attached to any favorite dishes, since they’re likely to be swapped out shortly as new dishes emerge. Preparations of seemingly simple dishes like black drum and shrimp are subtly layered with flavor, as intriguing as the sea from which they came. The rabbit charcuterie draws regular raves. Note: don’t make the novice mistake of gorging early and often, and making the universal “no dessert” hand signal to the waiter at meal’s end. The pastry chef performs small magic with even everyday offerings like “milk and cookies” (which are more magic and comfort food) and an enviable pistachio cheesecake
