Just a few moments from Abessess Metro station is this extremely charming and extremely popular cafe and bakery.
I was recommended Coquelicot by a friend who lived in Paris for a year as a pretty place for breakfast at "Paris cheap prices". It was a bit more touristy than I expected (perhaps as it was July during the Tour De France weekend) but it was as cute and reasonable as promised.
We went on a Saturday morning, around 10.30 am. The first time we looked in there were no tables in or outside and there seemed to be a queue forming. Fortunately, after a five minute walk around the block the situation had miraculously resolved itself and we were seated.
Amongst the locals buying their weekend bread and the more zealous tourists posing in front of the counter, we enjoyed a croissant and a bowl (yes, a bowl) of coffee. Everything is presented beautifully and as refreshing as the air conditioning was, I couldn't help but thinking how quaint and cosy it must be in the winter.
Highly recommended, as long as you don't mind a little dose of the more obnoxious tourist with your baguette.
