Silvery Stars at Copper Breaks
In 2014, Copper Breaks State Park joined Big Bend National Park, Enchanted Rock State Park, and the City of Dripping Springs to be recognized by the International Dark-Sky Association. In part that is due to the favorable conditions that exist here with little nearby development. But the association’s award of gold-tier status also acknowledged the efforts the park has taken to reduce light pollution and create engaging programs that incorporate the night sky. The measures taken by Copper Breaks are now also being adopted by many of the other state parks as Texas is quickly emerging as a leader in the dark sky movement.
