Wildlife Conflict Islands Papua New Guinea

Although there are more than 1,100 species of fish on the reef—everything from tiny ghost pipefish to hammerhead sharks—the spectacular wildlife here is not confined to the ocean’s depths. You might be lucky enough to spot a tree kangaroo perched up high (many of the world's 14 species of tree kangaroo, an endangered species, are found in Papua New Guinea) or admire a green or hawksbill turtle making the slow journey up the sand to lay her eggs. There’s also a turtle hatchery and nursery on Panasea Island where you can hand-feed baby turtle hatchlings or help release them into the sea.
