Delfin Amazon Cruises Founder and CEO Aldo Macchiavello and Cofounder Lissy Urteaga pride themselves on having created the only Peruvian-owned river cruise line. With this in mind, Delfin’s leadership and entire staff demonstrate a deep commitment to the surrounding environment and its residents.
The Kuyapa Foundation, Delfin Amazon Cruises’ partner nonprofit, provides educational, medical, and infrastructural support and sponsorships to underserved native Andeans and Amazonians. Delfin’s deep ties to these communities allow Kuyapa to approach each effort uniquely with solutions that can be integrated into existing societal infrastructures to ensure their sustainability. Delfin encourages its guests to join these efforts, and some have returned to the region with Kuyapa to provide free skills and services to locals, such as dental and medical care.
Delfin also supports native Peruvian communities by adorning its vessels with their craftwork and artwork. It’s available onboard for purchase—and 100% of the funds return directly to schools and families. There are also opportunities to shop at markets built by Delfin and independently run by female artisans. This support of native artistry by Delfin and its guests has developed a local economy based in handicrafts instead of illegal hunting.
