This tavern was built as a stagecoach stop in 1886 and is located in the mountains above Santa Barbara. In the evening, dining here is romantic but during the day, you can see the beautiful views driving over the San Marcos pass. On a clear day, you will see the ocean and Channel Islands on the drive to this location.
There are a couple other historic buildings besides the tavern and restaurant- an old jail was brought over the mountains and added to this collection and you can hold special events in the house where the Chinese road gang who built the San Marcos pass lived and slept.
Cold Spring Tavern is a unique experience of California's past. The food is good enough- lunch has the best prices. It is the history and location of this tavern that makes it worth a stop if you are visiting Santa Barbara. The bar and restaurant are separate and there is often some great music at night in the bar.
Tip: If you come on the weekend, expect huge crowds. Dinner reservations are recommended.
