If you make your way to Cocobeach, don't miss the lovely beaches, particularly the islands off the coast (that belong to Equatorial Guinea). But something less well known is the wealth of traditional religious ceremonies taking place in and around CocoBeach. Part of the local Fang tradition, Bwiti ceremonies come in all forms, and many are closed to the public. But if you ask at your case de passage or hotel, you might be able to find a ceremony that would welcome a few visitors. For example, initiation ceremonies, where young people enter the religion, are often public affairs. Ceremonies often take place on Sat nights. To find the ceremony, just follow the sound of drumming at midnight! If you want to make yourself even more welcome, bring a disposable camera and give it to the family when you go - they will want pictures of the event, but may not have their own camera!
