When it was completed in 1864, the striking (and rather vertiginous) Clifton Suspension Bridge spanning the Avon Gorge was considered a triumph of engineering. It remains one of Bristol’s most iconic sights and is now linked to the city’s most upmarket neighborhood. In Clifton, you can visit an 18th-century observatory, stroll leafy parks or try the local cider at the much-loved Coronation Tap. It’s also full of lovely shops selling homewares or fashion and cute coffee shops.
