Backpacking in the Outback
On a drive through the Pilbra, from the town of Karratha to the local beach spot, Point Sampson we decided to turn off the North West Coastal Highway and checkout the turtle nesting beach in Cleaverville. After 30 minutes bobbing down a dirt road in a white Toyota ute (aka pickup truck) we arrived at a rocky estuary. The beach at the mouth of the estuary gets most of the attention, but the river itself was just as intriguing, glowing blue-green against the ochre red dirt.
