Quidi Vidi Lake
Located northeast of St. John’s, the 1.6-kilometer-long (one-mile-long) Quidi Vidi Lake hosts one of North America’s oldest annual sporting events: the annual Royal St. John’s Regatta, when crew teams compete on the first Wednesday in August. (The day is a holiday in the city of St. John’s.) The rest of the year, visitors can explore 3.8 kilometers (2.6 miles) of walking trails around the lake that are part of the larger Grand Concourse, a system of interconnected paths throughout St. John’s.
