Citizen’s Forest

Fans of Japanese mythology will find three powerful spots linked to the Japanese creation myths in Citizen’s Forest: Eda Shrine, Misogi Goten and Misogi-ike. According to legend, Izanagi No Mikoto and his sister-lover Izanami No Mikoto were the two deities who created Japan. After failing to rescue Izanami from death in the underworld, Izanagi bathed in the pond at Misogi-ike. As he was washing his face, the sun goddess and the moon god were born from the tears in his eyes, and the storm god from his nose. Izanagi and Izanami are honored at both Eda Shrine and Misogi Goten.
