The train runs from town to town along the Cinque Terre in Italy and of course you can hike between the five villages that run along this stunning coast line but the third way is the one with the best view. Go by boat! Even if you walk or take the train do at least one segment by the boat that ferries people on the water. the villages tumbling down the cliffs and into the water are a sight to behold. If you aren't a big hiker do the Via del Amore (home of the original love locks) an easy, level, paved walk between two villages that takes less than a half hour to stroll. Eat in one of the town's cafes (pesto is a regional specialty as are fresh anchovies) and be sure to stop in the small churches (each village has at least one) to see various offerings for the local fishermen. Take pictures, enjoy the pace of places virtually without cars, have a campari and soda- pretend you are Italian. You can do it all here!
