Protect our Little Girl
While traveling through Naples, Italy, a local friend took me to one of his favorite hidden spots: an ancient cavern containing the bones of thousands of poor people and those who succumbed to major epidemics. Locals believe that the skulls have protective powers so they "adopt" a skull, caring for it for decades.

This particular skull belonged to a little girl and had been placed in a separate case with some toys. There was such an eery dissonance between the ancient dust of the clothes and the bright pink freshness of the blond doll.
