Gothic beauty, modern pleasure
We have been many time to Barcelona, but a return to the beautiful Santa Maria del Mar church during our visit in May 2013 had extra meaning because both my wife and I had read "Cathedral of the Sea," an expansive historical novel in which the building of the church during the 14th century plays a central role. Today, this is a lively and beautiful area that attracts tourists and locals alike with excellent dining, unique shops and a pleasant buzz from people who know how to enjoy themselves. No matter where we are staying, we always seem to find ourselves here at least once.
