Christchurch Gondola

Take in 360-degree vistas of Christchurch's stunning surroundings, from the Canterbury Plains and Southern Alps to the Lyttelton Harbour and the Banks Peninsula, via this 10-minute cable-car ride that ascends 862 horizontal meters (2,830 feet) to the top of Mount Cavendish. At the summit station, the restaurant serves up lunch with a view and the Time Tunnel serves up local history. If you're game for a short but steep downhill hike, a bridle path leads from the gondola station down to the shops and cafés of Lyttelton.
