Chlemoutsi Castle
You don’t necessarily come to
Greece expecting to see medieval castles, but in truth they scatter the landscape almost more profusely than classical ruins. The country was once known as the home of the most chivalrous knights in Europe, and they fought and jousted at this impressive fortification. On a clear day the views are magnificent and stretch over to the southernmost of the nearby Ionian Islands, Cephalonia and Zakynthos.
