Chitabe Safari Tent Camp
Early Morning Jeep Safari
Gordon, our guide for the next five days, met us at the end of the dirt air strip in the heart of the Okavango Delta with a warm smile, a cool and clean damp cloth and a congenial disposition. During the 30-minute drive along the winding road of powdery sand he pointed out at least 20 different big-game and aviary animal species. Chitabe Camp is indeed in the "lap of luxury" when it comes to African Safari tent camps. With delicious meals, an openly friendly and eager-to-please staff and an abundance of well-fed animal life this photographer's dream is sure to satisfy the kid inside of you. Awaken on a crisply chilled July morning with the warmth of a bush baby water bottle between your sheets. Enjoy a sunrise jeep ride through the lush landscape of this perennial river delta as baby elephants frolic in muddy streams, jackals take a moment to check you out and a full-bellied male lion rolls to his feet following a postprandial morning nap. Lilac breasted rollers add a flitting flair of feathery color to a backdrop meant for the camera lens.
