I must confess; I have a certain penchant for sky bars. Clichéd perhaps, but sometimes there’s a reason things are popular, and in my opinion little beats a sun-downer cocktail perched atop a tall building in a hectic city – aside from sunset drinks on an exotic beach, perhaps.
It’s not the style of the bar, the price of the drinks or the people around drinking that ‘makes’ a rooftop bar – it’s simply the view that I adore. City skylines inspire me, and I love the feeling of being up high and taking a moment a stillness to appreciate the frantic life of an unrelenting metropolis below that never seems to stop.
During my many years spent living in Vietnam I enjoyed a fair few evenings supping mojitos and margaritas but at that time the opulent sky bars such as Chill didn't exist.
When I was lucky enough to return to Ho Chi Minh City recently, my friend took me there to experience the swanky bar where the Saigon elite can be seen splashing the cash alongside traveling tourists seeking a fabulous photo op.
Though it might be considered pricey, the cocktails are superb and the view is sumptuous. It’s not my kind of regular watering hole, but Chill Sky Bar on the 27th floor of AB Tower in District 1 is certainly top of my list if I’m ever back in HCMC and want to ‘wow’ my companion.
