After a massive fire swept through Chiado in 1988, the neighborhood rose from the ashes and transformed itself into one of the most trendy and elegant areas in Lisbon. A cultural hub with theaters and bookshops, including Bertrand, founded in 1732, Chiado is also home to many boutiques, featuring both local designers and international brands. After a day on your feet, sip a cup of coffee and people-watch from the terrace of one of two historic cafés: A Brasileira and Benard.
