Swoon Over Sakura
Spring blooms early in Vancouver
, and around late February, or early March the first pom-pom blossoms of the cherry trees begin to show. The West End of Vancouver is particularly good for the ‘hanami’ of the ‘sakura’ (that’s Japanese for viewing cherry blossoms). You’ll see drifts of white and pink blossoms sweeping down to the sea and even the most jaded locals can be spotted taking photos and admiring the transient beauty of the flowers. Vancouver holds a Cherry Blossom Festival with plenty of fun activities from a Cherry Jam concert to ‘plein air’ blossom painting, and you can find handy blossom viewing maps on their site.
