Château Saint-Germain-de-Livet
Château Saint-Germain-de-Livet is located in the midst of Normandy's lush, rolling hills, about 10 mins outside of the town of Lisieux.

Visiting the castle was one of the highlights of our day tour through the Pays d'Auge. It is picture perfect, complete with moat and swans.

The inside of the castle had some of the most stunning 15th/16th century frescos of the area. I'm surprised they don't publicize them more as they really are spectacular. The rest of the tour highlighted a typical collection of furniture from the area and era that have been brought in to create the museum. And towards the end there were some impressive pastels by Léon Riesener, a French Romantic painter, who's work can also be admired in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.

The castle grounds are perfect for a picnic, just watch out for those innocent looking peacocks. They'll charm and distract you; next thing you know, your food is gone.

>>>Warm thanks to my lovely friends at AmaWaterways for an unforgettable river cruise on the Seine from Paris to Normandy. My visit to Château Saint-Germain-de-Livet was one of many excursions available daily at no additional cost. Great concept, AmaWaterways!
