A shaded terrace at the entry to Château Fontainebleau makes a spectacular first impression with its panorama of olive trees and nearly 35 acres of vineyards spread out below. It’s a delightful place to sample the fruit of that landscape and its four diverse soil varieties. (A restructuring effort is underway to convert to biodynamic cultivation.) You can visit the cellar and even hitch a ride through the vines on a handsome horse-drawn carriage of leather and gleaming wood.
