Chateau du Breuil

Les Jourdains, 14130 Le Breuil-en-Auge, France

Normandy is famous for its butter, cream and delicious cheeses, such as Camembert, Livarot, Pont-l'Évêque. Among connoisseurs it is also known for the omnipotent Calvados, a ‘high-voltage’ brandy made from local apples. Château du Breuil, one of the top distilleries, is located in the midst of the picturesque Pays d’Auge region of Normandy. Calvados from the Pays d’Auge region is known to be of finer quality than that of the rest of Normandy, due to its apples, soil and double distillation process. Château du Breuil owns 22,000 apple trees, which seems a ton, until you learn that more than 25kgs of apples are needed to produce just a single liter of Calvados... The tour includes a visit to a dramatic, centuries old barn turned barrel room. The tasting at the end of the tour of course makes for the perfect finale. Cheers, or as the french say: a vôtre santé! Château du Breuil 14 130 Le Breuil en Auge Phone + 33 2 31 65 60 00 Open every day: 9am – 12pm & from 2pm – 6pm (except Christmas & New Year’s) >>>Warm thanks to my lovely friends at AmaWaterways for an unforgettable river cruise on the Seine from Paris to Normandy. My visit to Château du Breuil was one of many excursions available daily at no additional cost. Great concept, AmaWaterways!
