Any walking tour of Lausanne's Ouchy port area always includes the magnificent Château d'Ouchy. The château's tower was originally built in the 12th century and the other parts of the edifice were built and rebuilt over the years, the last time being a neo-gothic rendition in the late 1800s. At one time, the château was used as a prison as well as a residence for a powerful bishop. More than a hundred years ago it was converted into a hotel. The view from the hotel looks out over the port onto beautiful Lake Léman.
I was there on an early autumn day and many of the local sailing enthusiasts were on the water for a last time before the cold weather set in.
