On a lovely weekend trip to Ribeauvillé, France, my fiancé and I took a sweaty hike up to the castles that overlook the town. First, we packed a picnic of baguette, bison sausage, cheese, and, of course, wine. Then we made our way through the scenic old town and when we reached the Hotel-Restaurant aux Trois Chateaux, we made a right and followed the stone path through the vineyards of Jean Sipp. It's a steep but gorgeous climb up from there to Chateau St. Ulrich. The air is fresh and the views down to the town and its surrounding vineyards are nothing but breathtaking. We probably left for the hike around 9am, took our time taking in the views, visiting all three castles (the other two are Girsberg and Haut-Ribeaupierre), and enjoying our picnic, and returned to the bottom around noon.
