The Ceylon Tea Museum is located in an old tea factory in Hantane, on the outskirts of Kandy. The entrance fee includes a guided tour of the building, introducing both the machinery of the 19th century and the process of making tea. The optional tour is quite informative.
The building is full of original machinery such as the Little Giant Tea Roller, which twists dried tea leaves into spirals for cutting. There are also archival prints of 19th century industry, including the life and work of tea pioneer James Taylor.
At the conclusion of the tour, enjoy a cup of tea while taking in a panoramic view from the fourth floor of the ex-factory.
The factory is a pleasant three-wheeler ride up from Kandy and is well worth a visit!
