Very few things in life get me more excited than the idea of a day at the spa. And I think I just had the best experience of my entire life.
Vichy is perhaps best known for its major role during World War II, when the French seat of government was transferred there during the Nazi Occupation. But outside of its historical importance, Vichy and the French region of Auvergne are also renowned around the world for their high-quality thermal waters and spa facilities. And I figured - why not try la crème de la crème while I'm there? Hence my stay at the 5* Les Célestins Hôtel & Spa.
French people have been traveling accross France for the last two centuries in the hopes of bathing in this highly-acclaimed thermal water, whose properties were said to cure a few diseases, slow the aging process and give the skin a unique glow that couldn't be found anywhere else.
I tried a few of the hotel's facilities, and I was impressed. Everything oozes well-being, luxury and relaxation, and I could very well see myself stay there for an entire week, going from one pampering appointment to the other.
My tip: if you feel like going for a walk, the hotel is ideally located by the beautiful Allier River, one of the most important in the country. It certainly makes for a nice outdoor activity, year-round.
