Wine In Wisconsin!?
Cedarburg, Wisconsin might be the cutest town in the Milwaukee area. The shops along Washington Avenue offer meat, cheese, and chocolate (what more could one ask for?) or gifts for the discerning; while staring at the churches and civic buildings, you might feel like you just showed up in a German village of yore; and the town knows how to celebrate the harvest time with a festival and more beer than you can shake a stick at. But, my favorite part of the town is the Settlement shops. I've been coming to Cedarburg my whole life because my grandmother lived there. She used to take me to the crepe restaurant in "the Mill" as we called it back then. Then we would shop in the stores on the other floors and she'd buy me a trinket or two. On this visit my cousin and I toured the winery in the basement and enjoyed Cedar Creek's award winning wines. A Frenchman figured out how to make really good wine in one of the most hostile environments for that sort of thing. And this gal from the San Francisco Bay Area bought a case....
