In Piazza Sordello, right before the entrance of the Palazzo Ducale, there is a market that is not your typical Italian foodie epicentre for all things cheese, bread, and flowers. Instead the market took a more holistic approach offering yoga, organic locally produced olive oils, fresh breads, and even free back massages (sign up and wait up to 45 minutes or so).
This market is just the thing to either limber up before walking the city, where Shakespeare's Romeo was famously exiled, or wind down after touring the Palazzo del Te and the Palazzo Ducale.
There are also silver jewellers who sell one of a kind items that will make your trip to Mantua especially memorable.
Market takes place on Saturday 8am-1pm Walking is the best form of transportation as the town is small and everything is relatively close to the train station.
