Sunset over Castelnaud Castle
Most people would quote the Loire Valley when thinking about French chateaux, but with 1001 castles from different ages, the Dordogne department in South West France offers a valid alternative with for an history geeks! The Castelnaud castle, dating back from the 12th century, is located along the Dordogne valley and offer astonishing views on the river as well as a very interesting medieval war museum with a series of reconstructed catapults.
